Summertime in Perigord is full of music concerts and other outdoor events. To find out what's on during your stay, stop into the tourist offices in Verteillac for the Dordogne, and Villebois Lavalette for the Charante.
Below are some of the main ones that we enjoy!
Running since 1999, the Village Sessions is a summer folk festival in the Charante, which usually takes place for 4 days in mid-July. Musicians come from all over the world to perform in the concerts, which are held in the evenings in different villages across the commune of Lavalette-Tude-Dronne.
The 14th of July is Bastille Day, the National Day of France. Activities will happen across the region but we usually go to the nearest event, held in Vendoire. Meals are served at rows of trestle tables, and there is live music, dancing, a bouncy-slide for kids, and fireworks.
In early July, the village of Didac put on "une grande fête médiévale". Performers put on medieval entertainment, such as chivalry tournaments, bear dancing, archery, fire-eating, troubadour musicians, and much more. It is a great event, especially for those with children.
